5 Social Media Tips for Your Kids

October 5, 2022

It’s fall and kids are now back to school. This is the perfect time to consider your kid’s social media use. Is your kid tweeting? Are they signing up for new accounts on several platforms? OMA Comp has the perfect advice for your children’s social media use.

Understand the Settings of App

The “Terms & Conditions” section of signing up for an app can be confusing for children and adults. The settings in most social media apps allow companies to advertise campaigns based on your search inquiries, location, and friends. Warn your children to consider things that mention location, advertisements, related content, contact list synchronization and to cautiously include location in posts as necessary.

Consider the Location

Many indicators can give people enough information to know exactly where your child is. Instruct your children to refrain from including addresses or other location details in pictures. Ensure they avoid posting vacation pictures while away from home to prevent people from invading an unattended home.

Consider Anonymity

Using a fake name or being anonymous is helpful because it makes it harder for people to identify others if real names are not used. Encourage your child to use social media strategically and mention that there is nothing wrong with using a fake name to mask explicit identity information.

Look out for Scammers

Scammers thrive on social media and target groups of people that are vulnerable (children and the elderly). Encourage your children to read through the site’s security policies and to cautiously interact with other accounts. They should never share account credentials and always research offers, giveaways. In addition, they should avoid messages that seem to be from the social media app staff.

Manage Privacy

A beneficial privacy practice is using two-factor authentication. Some social media apps allow parents to see their children’s direct messages in a separate email. Talk with your child and determine if they are comfortable with their media being micromanaging by you solely for protection and guidance. If they are comfortable, learn about privacy accessibility to help your child stay safe.

Keep Your Kids Safe

During this time of returning to school, kids are geared up for new experiences and trends. Ensure your kids are following the right trends, especially on social media. Help them by encouraging safe social media practices that ensure their personal information is safeguarded. Visit www.omacomp.com for more cybersecurity advice or to receive IT services.

January 3, 2019

OMA Comp Search Engine Optimzation 2019 Trends

Search engine optimization continues to evolve. Search engines find more ways to deliver the results users want. In the meantime, businesses have to learn to adapt quickly to an ever-changing virtual environment. Make sure your company is SEO-ready for 2019 by implementing the following rules.

The Featured Snippet Matters

SEMrush reported that the Featured Snippet claims 11.3% of search results. It also manages to take clicks away from the top spot. This is a tool that should not be overlooked in 2019. You need to find the keywords you rank for as well as those that have a Featured Snippet. Then, you should create a short 40 to 60-word paragraph of text designed to rank for the Featured Snippet keyword.

You Must Optimize for Voice Search

Voice search is a big deal in the SEO world, and it keeps getting bigger. Using effective keywords and earning a Featured Snippet are a good start. Also, make sure your content provides a question and answers it. When people use voice search, Google usually seeks out pages with a related question and answer.

Content and Links Still Matter

Content and links still matter. You need great content and link building if you want to rise in the search page ranks. You must earn a place on the first page before you can get optimum benefit from Voice Search and other tools.

Take SEO to the Next Level in 2019

Now is the time to plan for next year’s SEO. You don’t have to do it alone. Contact OMA Comp today to learn more about the new rules driving search engine optimization in 2019.

Building Strong B2B/B2C Relations – OMA Comp

November 20, 2013

OMA-Comp-Business-Relations-ExpertsAs an entrepreneur you deal with both retail and business customers, and you have to take a different approach to how you deal with both sides of your business. No matter which type of customer you happen to be dealing with, it is vital to the success of your business that you succeed in building strong B2B/B2C relations. At the same time you must realize that you are dealing with two completely different types of customers, each of which has a different method of shopping.

Looking at the Business Side of Things
When looking at the business side of B2B/B2C relations, it is important that you understand how the business customer conducts their shopping. The average business customer tends to be extremely savvy with regard to what they are buying. They spend countless hours researching any major purchase and comparison shopping. The web copy for the business customer needs to have a certain level of sophistication based on this assumption. It is safe to assume that these buyers already know a great deal about the products you have for sale and are more interested in being shown that you have the exact item they need.

From the Consumer’s Point of View
On the other hand the average consumer tends to be less informed and is more likely to buy on impulse. They are far more interested in finding the best price rather than the item with the best specifications. Looking at this aspect of B2B/B2C relations, it is very important for your website design to instill a sense of trust in your customers. Your website content not only needs to be SEO optimized, but also has to be worded in such a way as to let your customers know that you are the experts with regard to your products. These are the steps you must take in order to be successful when running an online business.

Ransomware and What To Watch Out For – OMA Comp

November 13, 2013

OMA-Comp-Blog-Post-11-13-2013With the ever-intense shopping season right around the corner, it’s also the perfect time for hackers and cyber-thieves to hunt, and now lock you out of for your sensitive information that cost you hundreds in repair/retrieval. The latest thing to wreak havoc across the internet is a form of malware known as ransomware– yes, you read that right. Sweeping helpless consumers across the world the last couple of weeks, Black Friday could be a potential goldmine for these wrong-doers.

A rather new form of malware, ransomware typically arrives in the form of an email made to look like something legitimate using social engineering, causing the user to think it’s a trustworthy message. There is a zip file attached where the user then opens it, allowing the encryption software to run on their computer. Before you even know what you’ve obliviously initiated, it’s far too late. Your computer brings up a lock-out screen telling you have a certain amount of time to pay a fee or you will lose you data. Reports are stating that prices are falling anywhere between $300 and $2000. Only after you pay the fee will you get your files back, but some reports claim that even then you’ll be out of luck. If it came down to this the only savior in such an event would to have a backup somewhere, but many users don’t use any form of backup whatsoever.

Anti-Virus companies try their hardest at keeping up with the newest tactics and devices as to update their software as often as possible, but sometimes it’s just not enough. You need to keep your malware software up to date as to have the latest version, keeping the latest and most dangerous viruses at bay. Telling the difference between a legitimate email and a fake one is becoming increasingly difficult as well, so it’s important you leave any messages you don’t know about alone and leave it to the Anti-virus and Anti-Mal ware software to clear out.

OMA Comp uses only the best software and hardware when it comes to protecting your computer and your files. Daily backups and a proper security setup are the best protection against such an event, so be sure you’re in good shape for a day’s worth of online shopping. The last thing you would want to happen is to open that email thinking it was from a major department store, only to find out it was fake with a digital ransom minutes later. Are you thinking of something you’d like done to your system to better prepare yourself? OMA Comp can do it all so call today!
